Understanding Open Access

Open access (OA) removes barriers between scholarly research and its readers by offering unrestricted online availability of peer-reviewed publications. As a 'gold' open access journal, Archives of ISPRM makes all accepted articles immediately and permanently available on our website at no cost to readers. This model is sustained through article processing charges (APCs) covered by authors, their institutions, or funding organizations upon manuscript acceptance.

Published Content

Archives of ISPRM accepts submissions across multiple formats:

  • Original Research
  • Review Articles
  • Perspectives
  • Case Reports
  • Letters to the Editor
  • Editorials
  • Clinical Pearls
  • ISPRM Viewpoint
  • Study Protocols

All submissions must meet our formatting standards for length, references, and visual elements. Complete specifications appear in our Instructions to Authors.

Identifying Open Access Articles

Every published article displays an 'Open Access' designation on both HTML and PDF versions. Creative Commons licensing details appear prominently within the article and are embedded in the publication metadata for indexing services.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors maintain full copyright ownership of their published work. All articles become freely accessible for reading, downloading, and sharing immediately upon publication.

Archives of ISPRM publishes under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). Under this license, others may download and share your work with proper attribution, but they cannot modify it or use it for commercial purposes.

Certain funding bodies mandate the more permissive CC-BY-NC-ND license. If your research is supported by any of the following organizations, you may select the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License (CC-BY-NC-ND) instead:

  • National Institutes of Health Research (NIHR)
  • Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Charity Open Access Fund (COAF)
  • UK Department of Health
  • International Development Research Centre
  • UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
  • Wellcome Trust
  • Austrian Science Fund (FWF)
  • Swedish Research Council
  • World Health Organization (WHO)
  • World Bank
  • Worldwide Cancer Research
  • Yorkshire Cancer Research

The CC-BY license permits others to distribute, adapt, and build upon your work—including for commercial purposes—provided they give appropriate credit to the original source.
